Straight ranges, with the usual honesty: length, depth, access, and what the camera finds move every number. Budget from footage, not from the lowest bid.

Camera inspection: low hundreds, and it should credit toward repair work by whoever does both. Clearing (auger/jetting): a few hundred — function today, not a fix. Backwater valve installed: commonly low four figures — and the one line on this ladder the City may help pay for (below). Spot repair: low-to-mid four figures. Full-lateral lining: commonly $75–$250 per foot — most laterals land $5,000–$15,000. Pipe bursting: similar territory, sometimes higher with depth. Open excavation: the number that makes everyone grateful trenchless exists.
If the City verifies a public-sanitary backup at your address, the Basement Flooding Grant pays 100% of the first $1,000 and 50% of the next $1,000 of prevention work — up to $1,500 toward backwater valves, standpipes, and sump pumps, or $2,000 at 100% for Homestead-exempt and HEAP/PIPP households. Not repaid, two written quotes required, registered contractor doing the work. On a $1,400 valve install, that’s most of the bill. Repair of the lateral itself stays yours — but leaving grant money unclaimed while buying the valve anyway is just donating.
Length and depth of the run · pipe condition (linable vs. burst-only vs. dig) · access-pit locations · landscaping and hardscape in the path · permits. Two quotes naming different methods aren’t comparable until both explain what the camera showed — insist on the footage conversation.
